Balveer had a trustworthy servant who took care of all his household. Daily he thanked God for this servant because of whom the man was relieved of so many responsibilities and tensions. His neighbour was a rich Judge. He had many servants. But he had his eye on the faithful servant of his neighbour. He talked to the faithful servant one day promising many benefits and took him to himself. Balveer was heart-broken.
Balveer had a good friend, called James. He requested James to talk to the Judge. James went to the Judge and presented his case: “Sir, I had a pet sheep. It was inside my house playing with the children. My children fed him. He slept with my children. We are not rich people but a happy family. My neighbour John is a rich man. He has cattle, fields and orchards. But when he had a guest, he caught hold of my pet sheep that was playing outside and had it cooked for his guest.”
The Judge stood up from his seat angrily. He shouted: “Bring me that man. He must be severely punished. I will put him in prison.” “Sir, you are that man,” said James. The Judge realized his folly and restored the servant.
Before blaming others we must look into ourselves. Before attempting to remove the dust from somebody’s eye, we must remove the log from our own eye, so that we can see clearly enough to help others. Don’t desire what belongs to others.
