Precious Ointment

Reading: Psalm 133

“How good and pleasant it is for sisters to dwell together in unity!”

(Psa 133:1)

How easily we break fellowship with someone over a small misunderstanding! Here are some tips to hold on together in spite of the devil’s best efforts to break us up —

• See your sister as God sees her. She is the apple of God’s eye as much as you.
• See your sister as you would have her see you. Do to her as you would have her do to you. How I wish others would forgive my bad mannerism, temper and faithlessness!
• Give allowance for shortcomings. Everybody fails.
• Pray for her with whom you have problem. Talk to God about it. May be God will show where you failed.
• Make every effort to show your love to her by some way or other.
• Don’t give much weight to hearsay. Wait to make sure.
• Don’t imagine beyond what you know. If you come to know of something she had done, don’t try to guess the reason for her action.
• Be unchanging. Be as loving as before the relationship broke.
• Avoid even the slightest facial change. Give her time to mature spiritually and change.
• Accept when she expresses her repentance and embrace her.
• Give allowance for her condition. She may be going through some problem which you are unaware of. She may be taking it out on you.
• Clarify any misunderstanding. Even if there is the slightest facial change, enquire. Apologise profusely for any hurt you have inflicted on her. Avoid sending important and delicate messages through someone. It is best done personally atleast through a phone call.
• More often we punish a child because of wounded pride that he has violated our authority than with a godly intention. We need to apologise to the child and make up if we have erred.
• Lastly give allowance for age and background. A younger person has a long way to go before reaching our spiritual maturity. An older person must be forgiven and embraced considering her age. Don’t expect the understanding and intelligence of a well qualified person in an uneducated or less educated person. Be lenient and generous towards her.

Then the Lord commands His blessing, even life forever more!
