Be bold, Be right!

Reading: 2 Kings 11:1-12

“If I perish, I perish” (Esth 4:16)

Esther was convinced that she had to do something about the situation. She mobilized prayer. She was sure that she was on the right track. She mustered up courage to accomplish the task. How many of us would dare to do such a thing in such a situation?

Be men,” says Paul (1 Cor 16:13 KJV). It is now translated as, “Be brave, be strong.” We women sometimes become cowards when we face hard situations. When we know we are right we should be bold, let came what may. Martin Luther gave his life for the truth. Martyrs have poured their blood for the cause of Christ. It may be a situation at home or workspot or ministry. If we are right we should be bold to act for God. We can trust God to be with us and help us in such situations. He will never let us down. “The righteous are bold as a lion” (Prov 28:1).

Josheba is another Esther who decided, “If I perish, I perish.” She was the daughter of King Jehoram and sister of Ahaziah. When her wicked mother Athaliah proceeded to destroy the royal family, she took prince Joash son of Ahaziah who was about to be slaughtered and hid him in a bedroom along with his nurse. Athaliah would have known her grandsons and must have searched for Joash. If she had known what happened to him, she would have murdered Josheba too. Josheba preserved the royal line and thus played a vital role in God’s promise to David that he will alway have a lamp before God, by putting her life on the line (2 Ki 11:1-3; 1 Ki 11:36). Such risk-taking has fallen by the wayside today.

We need women of steel to stand for God. In courage, forwardness and leading more women to step forward. We should not back out when leadership is thrust on us or a responsibility shoved our way. You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you.

Boldness does not mean we should attempt things not meant for us. Each of us can be bold to stay in the calling God has called us to. Priscilla was a bold woman, quietly working with her husband, especially among the Gentiles. Paul appreciated her for her courage and willingness to risk her life for the Gospel sake (Rom 16:3).

The devil will discourage you and frighten you. In the revival that broke out during the apostolic era women went to prison and even faced death. Remember, we are soldiers of the cross!
