Decisions of a Senior Citizen

Reading: 2 Timothy 1:3-8; 3:14,15

Peter’s mother-in-law “got up and began to wait on” Jesus (Mt 8:14)

1. I decide to become the meekest woman on earth like the 80- year old Moses. Though irritated by sons, daughters, sons-in-law or daughters-in-law I will hold my peace.
2. I decide like Naomi the widowed mother-in-law of Ruth not to let loneliness and sorrow depress me. I will treat my daughtersin-law and sons-in-law like my own children and win their love. I will not expect my son to obey me, try to separate him and his wife or keep him under my thumb.
3. I decide to love my grandchildren like Lois. I will not consider them a nuisance but count them my crown. I will not spoil them, rather tell them Bible stories and lead them to Christ.
4. I decide not to let anything disturb my relationship with God. I will serve God with fastings and prayer as much as possible like the 84-year old Anna and speak to all about God.
5. I decide to keep myself physically fit like the 85-year old Caleb. I will not be idle. I will walk as much as I can and be helpful to people to the possible extent.
6. I decide not to complain or murmur against anyone or anything. I love the Lord and I know every detail in my life is worked into something good.
7. I decide to prepare myself for my exit from this world. Death need not catch me off guard. I will clear all dues. I will not hold any grudge against anyone.
8. I decide to put my household in order like Hezekiah. I will write a will setting apart a sizeable portion for God’s work. I will not show partiality between my children, sons or daughters, while partitioning my properties. I will not give away my property to my children while well alive but they will inherit it after my death.
9. I decide not to accuse anyone without proof, nor be paranoid since my memory is failing. I will be cheerful and singing songs. I will keep up my spirits by going out.
10. I decide to examine myself to see if I have served my own generation by the will of God to the best of my ability like David.
