When a baby is born the parents discuss who it looks like, father or mother. The baby is in the image of the parents. Similarly when God created woman, He made her everyway like Him. She was to look like her Father God.
Adam gave birth to a son in his own image and so God’s image continues till date (Gen 5:3). Not just Eve, each of us bears the image of God. We should not damage the image of God in us. That means we should live like God. The more concrete approach would be to say that we must live as Jesus lived.
By sin we lost the image of God and we have borne the image of the earthly man. But we shall by and by bear the image of the heavenly man Jesus (1 Cor 15:48,49). How does this happen? If we love God, whatever happens in our life, God works it out for our good, so that we will come to have the same form (conformity) or image of the Son, who is the image of God. So, Jesus Christ becomes the firstborn and we become His sisters. So the entire family resembles one another (Rom 8:28,29).
When we walk through valleys and mountains, water and fire, trials and triumphs, in life’s journey, as we keep observing carefully or meditating the Lord’s glory we are being transformed into the image of Jesus Christ (2 Cor 3:18). Believe this, and you will never feel put down in life. God is invisible. But we can see Jesus Christ, who is His image, in the pages of the Bible (Col 1:15). The more we read and practise the Bible the quicker will be this transformation. Thus our old self is gone and our new self is being renewed in the image of God who created us (Col 3:10).
God created us in His image and saw us and we were very good (Gen 1:31). A day will come when once again God will see us in His image and say, “Very good!” Let us run with perseverance, fixing our eyes on Jesus (Heb 12:1,2). When we see Him, we shall be like Him (1 Jn 3:2).
