Not holy enough?
Reading: 1 Peter 2:1-9
"Grow up in your salvation ... declare the praises of Him" (1 Pet 2:2,9)
"Fellow Israelites, why does this surprise you? Why do you stare at us as if by our own power or godliness we made this man walk?" (Acts 3:12). This was the question of Peter and the apostles to those who stood wonder-struck at the miracle over the paralytic.
I very much contribute to the idea that personal holiness is foremost in our life. But how does that hinder personal soulwinning?
Some have a wrong idea that they are disqualified from sharing the Good News if they are not perfect. If you are waiting to become sinless before going out to win souls, I tell you, you are going to be disappointed. We attain perfection only when we reach heaven.
Soulwinning is a stimulus for holy living. When you start testifying to people naturally you are careful about your life. Open
proclamation of the Gospel makes you think twice before you fall in sin.
Furthermore, it is a command of God. We are careful to obey all the commandments of God. We have abstained from stealing and
lying because the Word of God commands us so. Then what of His commandment to go and preach the Good News? To go home to our friends? To go to byways and highways?
Study the life of Paul who spoke so much about holiness. Paul confessed, "For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do
not want to do — this I keep on doing" (Rom 7:19). So, was he sitting and crying and waiting to become holy? That is one side of
the coin. On the other side he had mobilized a group to follow him (Phil 3:17). Jesus and Paul were not mere holy talkers, they were holy workers.
With all your shortcomings keep testifying, witnessing and sharing like the Samaritan woman (Jn 4). You will come up in your
spiritual life quicker and better. Let no one deceive you. Let not the devil discourage you saying, "Look at yourself. Look at your family. Physician, first heal yourself." No, dear ones. Don’t give heed to the devil. Nobody is perfect. He who is holy should become holier still. God knows your struggles. Keep moving forward. The devil is afraid of your soulwinning and that’s why he discourages you. Don’t succumb to his tactics.
