047 The Emperor’s Treasure Box
An Emperor was going to his palace, carrying a treasure box full of jewels and precious stones. He was going on an elephant surrounded by soldiers for his own safety and his ministers’. Suddenly the elephant made a jerky movement and the treasure box tumbled down. The box fell open and the jewels lay all around. Gold coins and precious pearls rolled away. Everyone stood still not knowing what the Emperor would order.
Now, the Emperor was a kindhearted generous man. He thought for a moment and said, “All of you can take whatever you want. It is yours.” All the soldiers and ministers ran helter skelter trying to grab this or get that.
When the Emperor was happily looking around the scene he noticed one soldier who was standing near him, with his javelin straight and his eyes fixed on the Emperor. The Emperor was surprised. He asked the soldier, “Don’t you want to take some of the precious jewels for your family?” “Your highness,” said the soldier, “everybody’s eyes are on the jewels. What if somebody harms you when nobody is watching? That’s why I am keeping my eye on you. You are more precious to me than any jewel.” The Emperor felt blessed to have a soldier like him. He made him his bodyguard and presented him a box full of precious jewels and stones.
Seek first God and His Kingdom and everything else will be given to you.
